Help Those in Need by Becoming an RSVP AARP Tax Aide

AARP Tax Aide

Monticello, NY – Each year the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax assistance to those who need it most. Last year nationally, volunteers filed 852,377 Federal returns, securing $1,075,441,589 in refunds for 1,251,641 people through the help of 25,316 volunteers.

“Come join our team locally here through the Sullivan County RSVP AmeriCorps AARP Income Tax Aide Program, while also joining the largest volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service nationally,” invites Martha Tully, program coordinator of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). “You will receive training and support, learn new skills and feel great while helping others!”

Volunteers can:

  • Directly work with taxpayers to help them prepare their tax returns.
  • Greet people, provide technical support, help organize, recruit volunteers, translate and more.
  • Become part of a family who truly cares about their community
  • Have fun and feel good knowing you can help make a positive impact on someone’s financial well-being.

Volunteer roles:

  • Client Facilitator – Program Tax Aide – You will help taxpayers feel welcome and at ease by greeting them, gathering and organizing their paperwork, and describing the tax preparation process. Help ease the stress of tax season for older adults and low to moderate income families.
  • Tax Counselor – Program Tax Aide – You will help taxpayers of all ages with low to moderate income prepare and file their tax returns online, providing them with deductions they may have missed and the refunds they deserve. Your assistance will help relieve the burden and stress of them having to do their own taxes. Experience is not necessary; RSVP will provide training and IRS certification.
