Legal Department

The Legal Department represents the Department of Family Services in legal matters before County, Family, Justice and Supreme Courts. Our team of attorneys advise the Commissioner and staff on legal matters, procedures and issues such as confidentiality, fair hearings and legal aspects of new programs.

This Department is essentially a small law firm which provides representation to all units of the Department of Family Services.  In addition, the office's attorneys are consulted regarding a wide variety of issues involving every unit. They conduct consultations, research legal issues and advise staff regarding these issues. Thousands of consultations are conducted each year by our attorneys.
